DVD Download to Own

DVD Download to Own provides an alternative distribution route for DVDs. Rather than users purchasing or renting physical DVDs from a retail outlet, Download to Own allows them to download an image of a DVD which they then burn to disc using the standard DVD writer in their PC. The discs produced can be viewed on any standard DVD player.

Download to Own has a number of advantages over conventional DVD distribution routes:

  • No need to manufacture or hold stock
  • Instant global availability
  • Fewer intermediaries meaning more revenue to the publisher

To discourage piracy, each DVD image downloaded is different. When the DVD is played, the viewer first sees a screen which shows from where and when the DVD was downloaded, and a serial number which can be used to identify that download.

Cover artwork can be made available to purchasers, to allow them to complete the package by printing their own artwork to insert into a standard DVD case.
